Beck is me. Beck is one of the many variants of my name…Becky, Beck, Beckoli, Beckitra, the Great Beck. Okay, I made that last one up.
I’m an upper-20-something working wife with five pets and no children. I am a beginner runner; I just completed my first 5k in September 2009. I am training again for two more 5k’s before the end of the year. I currently do not subscribe to a name-brand nutrition plan. Instead, I use SparkPeople.com to track caloric intake, and I create weekly training plans for myself, including base training, runs, and strength training. I also am a beginner yoga student, and I am learning the basics of Vinyasa flow.
This blog is about everything and anything. Primarily I write about food and running, though other topics can creep in from time to time. I’m not vegan or vegetarian, though I used to be and am contemplating taking the leap again. It is my love of bacon that keeps me hostage to the carnivore lifestyle. In fact, I do not have a natural tendency to eat vegetables, so my adventures into the world of roughage will appear here frequently. I have trained myself over recent years to embrace the vegetable as my friend, but it has not been easy. I still have a hard time with some vegetables, despite their health value. I don’t think celery and I will ever become BFFs, though squash and I are now on speaking terms.
I live in rural Maine with my husband, who will likely be referred to on the blog as Josh (since that is his name, though he used to go by Steve for no reason whatsoever). I am owned by two dogs named Gretta and Doodle, as well as three cats named Moxie, Bean, and Ingrid. A side note: Ingrid is actually a boy, but we didn’t find out that detail until after we’d named him, and although we tried to use different names, he refuses to answer to anything but Ingrid.
I am currently attending graduate school full-time, for my Masters in social work. In my “free” time, I enjoy exploring Portland, being outside, gardening, reading, walking, shopping, and watching South Park.
